THE 2026 DOUG SPRINGER $5,000 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AVAILABLE THIS OCTOBER
The Maine Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame extends sincere appreciation to HOF Committee member Jay Morissette, who recently announced his retirement from coaching, for his profound contributions to the Maine swimming community during his 40 year coaching career at the Bath YMCA.
Jay's teams, averaging 150 members a year, as well as individual swimmers achieved extraordinary levels of success at the state, New England, and national level. The Bath Y team won 37 Maine YMCA State Championships in his 40 years, including 35 consecutive titles, and eight swimmers competed in the
United States Olympic Trials.
Additionally members of his teams regularly qualified for and competed in the YMCA short course nationals, considered the nation's largest youth short course competition, setting two national records and winning 16 gold medals .
Over 200 Bath Y swimmers earned top sixteen YMCA national rankings under Jay's direction.
Jay holds the distinction of being the lone Maine coach to hold a level 5 coach certification from the American Swim Coaches Association and he is one of a select group of American YMCA coaches nationally to earn the certification.
While he is retiring from coaching, Jay will continue to serve on the Maine Swimming and Diving HOF Committee.
